If you actually see them at night, they don’t look like a laser beam, they look like a line of stars that are moving quickly across the night sky. The reason they look like a laser beam in some photos is because the photo is a timelapse.

I saw them a few nights ago, I figured out where to look by using the Night Sky app on my phone. You can also use this website: [https://findstarlink.com](https://findstarlink.com), just check it later in the day when the sky is clear to find out if they’ll be visible later at night, and in which direction.

It’s a network of satellites that will, once the satellites have all been launched, provide a global satellite internet service.

This does already kind of exist, but satellite internet requires specialist equipment, and has some serious limitations. Starlink aims to solve these problems and basically give everyone, anywhere in the world, modern high speed internet access.

When launched, they’re deployed from the spacecraft they’re taken up in in a tight line, which over time will spread out as they’re manoeuvered into their final position. At the moment, you’re seeing the satellites at their early stages.

I think what you saw was a fake video by the youtube user ViralVideoLab on youtube. It pretends to show a laser test. The laser part and probably even the crossing of the two satellite trains is picture manipulation.
