For example, last night I slept for roughly 4-5 hours and woke up 3 hours before my alarm feeling perfectly rested and couldn’t fall back asleep. However on other days if I don’t get at least 8 hours of sleep I’m a zombie.
I understand that if I were to sleep in one day or get a bad sleep the amount of sleep I need may change, but some nights I’ll just require very little sleep for no reason and I’m not sure why. I know that sleep cycles exist and I generally try to follow them for my sleep and wake up times as well.

It has to do with which part of your sleep cycle you wake up in
If you wake up during the heavy REM sleep you will feel very tired and groggy, if you wake up during your light sleep it will feel very easy to wake up
There are apps you can get which will track your sleep cycles and then when you set an alarm it uses a range of time instead of a specific time and then it will trigger the alarm when you are in your lighter sleep cycle
