The difference between an nuclear bomb and a hydrogen bomb.

a hydrogen fusion bomb uses a nuclear fission bomb to kickstart a much more powerful explosion.
Nuclear fusion typically happens under tremendous heat and pressure and such conditions are not naturaly found outside of the center of a star. By wrapping a hydrogen bomb core in a shell made up of fusion bomb material the outer material can be detonated compressing the hydrogen core and mimicing the insane conditions normal only found in stars.
