Resting heart rate is just one indicator of cardiovascular health. Generally speaking, a lower heart rate means each pump of your heart moves more blood per pump. That means your arteries aren’t blocked and still elastic.

I’m not sure it’s the low heart rate itself or just the fact that you get a low heart rate by exercising and being aerobically fit. A trained heart is obviously efficient but we know that exercise itself has significant beneficial effects on risk of heart attack, stroke, cancer.

Guess it depends how low you’re talking. Because there’s a range that is considered normal and that’s where you want to be. While a lower heart rate can be the sign of a fit heart, if it’s too low, it can be the sign of a weak heart.

Certain conditions can make it really low. My dad has heart issues and some medications he was put on dropped his into the 30s which is scary for a fat guy in his 70s.

I think it’s more about the gap between the resting heart rate and the anaerobic threshold (which is the highest heart rate that you can do sustained exercise). The larger the gap the better you can perform. So a lower heartrate normally means a larger gap, but many people have a high heart rate and a very high anaerobic threshold, which is better than a low heartrate and a low anaerobic threshold.

The amount of blood eyected in a minute by the heart is related with tour heart rate (HR) and the amount of blood per contraction (every beat).
If the muscular of the heart is un good shape (like profesional sports people) the body need a lower HR to get the same blood.

Efficincy. Because it’s doing less work (beating less often) to provide the same result (body functioning). So long as the body is getting the power it needs for base functions, the heart can go as slow as it needs to.
