Tooth literally hanging by a thread

I have this vivid memory of when I was a child and pulling out one of my teeth and right when I almost had it done, it was dangling in my mouth hanging on a string of what looked like gums or a vein or something. I want to know if this is my memory playing tricks on me or if this is a real thing.

I have tooth-losing-age kids right now. Sometimes a little bit of the connecting tissue stays on there especially if a kid is twisting the tooth that is almost out.

Your memory is fine, it’s a thing.

Could have also been the nerve in the tooth. The nerve is hard to break and can hold the tooth even once the gum has let it come loose.
