Water and energy.

I’ve heard my entire life to drink water before doing anything because it will make you feel more energized, but it has no caffeine or natural stimulants that I know of, so why do we feel energized after drinking water?

It’s not that water makes you feel energized per se, it’s that dehydration makes you feel tired. You’ll feel you have less stamina and get tired quicker if you’re even slightly dehydrated, and with considerable dehydration you’ll have symptoms like low blood pressure, fast heart rate and headaches which will all interfere with your ability to do stuff

It’s like having oil in your engine. By itself the oil doesn’t make the engine go… But if you don’t have enough things really don’t work right….

In addition to countering the effects of dehydration- if you’ve heard it your whole life there’s a good chance that you’re experiencing a placebo effect (which is a very real phenomenon)

Water itself doesn’t provide energy, but it plays a big part in various body processes. Dehydration makes you feel more fatigued, but water also helps transport various things around the body (not only nutrients but also waste products), plays a part in various biochemical reactions.

The body is like 60% water. This isn’t just sloshing around by itself, it’s mixed with various other critical stuff your body needs like electrolytes that are critical in muscle movement, it affects blood volume, and it plays a very important part in regulating body temperature. Sweat is mostly water and is the main way you stay cool. Not replacing these lost fluids has a big impact in performance.

Think of it like the oil in an engine. It doesn’t provide any energy by itself, but it critical for the engine to actually function.
