Each tooth has a root, which is attached firmly with ligaments to the bones in your jaws. They are called periodontal ligaments.

I learned about the ligaments that hold your teeth in place last year, when I pulled one of them. I thought I had a loose filling in one of my molars, but the dentist told me that wasn’t the problem. I had to avoid chewy foods for a while, and then had to chew everything on the other side of my mouth for a few weeks after that. (The pain has gone away by now.)

The roots that are deep under the gum. Your full tooth is actually bigger than what you see and the roots attach the teeth to your skull/jaw. So brush and floss and keep those teeth clean 🙂
