Like call bots, email bots, text bots or just robots? Can you give a scene?

Bot is short for “robot”, i.e. a machine that does work so a human doesn’t need to but unlike a physical machine, software bots are just code.

I worked for an online game company that had a lobby area that was a “bar” theme. You would sit at virtual tables and wait on your front ends to join. I wrote several “bots” to entertain and interact with real players while they waited. They were primitive by today’s standards.

Today bots are frequently used to do bad things like repeatedly trying to hack computers or make spam phone calls. But the can be used for good uses and fun uses. If you play a game like Fortnite, there are bots in the game that play like real players.

A bot is a piece of software designed to automate the tasks that would normally be performed by a human. What the bot does, how it works, and whether it’s acting maliciously or not, are going to depend on who wrote that software and why.

Bots are programs that are meant to simulate people. Usually they’re relatively simple, like “go to reddit and comment this link on every post”. But reddit will.ban you if you do that, and they’ll do it really quickly, because they have an AI that detects bots. So people have made more advanced bots that are harder to notice.
