What are Heebie-Jeebies?

What is that weird nervy pain I get under my skin whenever someone talks about an injury or I see an injury? My spouse just had knee surgery and I can’t deal with talking about it. I call it “getting the heebie-jeebies” but I don’t understand what’s happening.

Your brain sends an empathetic signal to your nerve endings. Non-specific, so you feel like you should shake your body to stop it. Kind of like a warning to avoid whatever you’re witnessing
