what can I tell my kid that he needs to do to become a paleontologist when he grows up?

My 6yo is mad about Dinos and fossils and has ran through many fossil digging kits. What can I tell him that will be easy for him to understand what all should he do in order to have a good chance of becoming a paleontologist?

A 6 year old the first step is learning more about biology, once the items are recovered the key is working out what purposes do they serve, how do the animals move, what do they eat etc. however lots of young children like dinosaurs. Some of the likely reasons involve being able to tell adults about things they know and have the adult pay attention, as well as using their imagination to enact what the dinosaurs might do. https://youtu.be/wTNC-qtS-QY

Do good in your science classes and then go to college. When you’re a teenager, you might be able to get some kind of summer internship at a museum to get your feet wet and maybe get some early college credits.

do well enough in school especially in science english(or native language) and maths to get into a decent university and get a science degree, probably biology, zoology or geology but maybe chemistry, physics or maths, then do a masters or phd in paleontology. Nice thing is it’s a fairly good basis for a lot of careers should their interests change.

“Do well in school”

By the time it actually matters (so, highschool) you’ll be able to have a serious discussion that doesn’t require ELI6ing it. Or will have completely different interests by then, because all 6yos love dinosaurs.

Don’t explain what he should do – it’s too far ahead and could be discouraging.

Simply encourage him to explore his passion, take him to museums, watch documentaries etc.

And if his focus shifts elsewhere, well, then encourage him in that instead!

Some museums have programs that let you watch or participate in some of the research they are doing with explanations.

Sorry it’s too late for him, paleontologists start their careers between ages 3 and 4. Maybe he could teach?
