You can have 1000 people going through the identical childhood trauma, neglect scenarios, living in completely identical environments and end up with completely different mental conditions(BPD among them), or none at all. It could be genetic too. We do not really know for sure what factors or what combinations of those factors end up causing it.

Afaik we don’t know for sure.

Some people suggest that it could be caused by childhood neglect but like for most stuff about our psychic it is hard to say what all of the reasons are

Borderline personality disorder can be passed on hereditarily (if it runs in your family). Some people make babies with folks that have BPD, because it’s not a deal breaker for them. Those kids have an elevated chance of having BPD, especially if the BPD of the parents results in a rough childhood for the kids.
