The “dead arm”,also the “dead leg”,sensation is created by the compression of nerves. In the case of the arm its usually the compression of the ulnar, median or radial nerves. The nerve thats usually compressed with the “dead leg” sensation is the sciatic nerve, usually from sitting on the loo too long browsing reddit lol.

Being hit with force compresses the nerves in your arm and temporarily interferes with their ability to carry signals to the muscles. That’s why you can’t move your arm for a minute or so until the nerves return to normal.

That would be lack of blood flow. Blood distributes oxygen and other vital things to your organs. When a main artery or vein is pinched long enough, the loss of blood flow to the affected areas causes a lack of sensation and obedience to subconscious cues. The uncomfortable sensation is mood coming back to that area and telling it it’s time to wake I’m and get moving.

Kind of like how shitty that Alarm clock feels at 6:45 am
