A lot of ant species have dedicated burrows within the colony for their dead. Little ant graveyards. One particular species actually focuses on grabbing dead things to cultivate a fungus they exclusively eat. They’re almost human…

They take the bodies to an “ant graveyard,” an area off from their main nest, and leave them there.

The reason why ants move their dead is to protect their queen and colony from contamination. We’re not entirely sure what the reason is but it’s also theorized that they would use it as an emergency food supply too.

When ants die, they release a chemical to signal to other ants that they’re dead. Kinda like shooting a flare or something. If you kill an ant it will attract more ants to recover their dead.
