What does a Chiropractor actually do?

2.75K viewsBiologyOther

I’m hoping a medical professional could explain, in unbiased language (since there seems to be some animosity towards them), what exactly a chiropractor does, and how they fit into rehabilitation for patients alongside massage therapists and physical therapists. What can a chiropractor do for a patient that a physical therapist cannot?

Additionally, when a chiropractor says a vertebrae is “out of place” or “subluxated” and they “put it back,” what exactly are they doing? No vertebrae stays completely static as they are meant to flex, especially in the neck. Saying they’re putting it back in place makes no sense when it’s just going to move the second you get up from the table.

Thanks.

Look up sciatica, that’s what I have. Went to a MD, referred to a specialist and was told I was going to be on disability for the rest of my life and surgery was the only option with heavy pain meds to keep me comfortable.

Surgery included fusing my spine in certain places and grinding off the part of the disc pinching the nerve.

I said fuck that, I do not accept this as the only answer.

Went to a chiropractor, he diagnosed me the exact same way as the “Dr’s” and then explained to me the cure.

I went with it, that was over 5 yrs ago, no pain meds, no surgery. I go back to him once every 6 months for Maintence and I am pain free, excelling at my career, taking promotions and making bank.

Surgeons get paid by the surgery, MD’s get paid to prescribe, hospitals get paid to treat not cure. This is how it works in a for profit economy.

Yes my chiropractor gets paid to adjust my joints, he has taught me ways to prevent further injury.

Chiropratic treatments do not happen in one go, they need repetition to work.

You can’t pound out a dent in a fender with one blow, it takes many many hammer blows to fix.
