What does a Chiropractor actually do?

2.73K viewsBiologyOther

I’m hoping a medical professional could explain, in unbiased language (since there seems to be some animosity towards them), what exactly a chiropractor does, and how they fit into rehabilitation for patients alongside massage therapists and physical therapists. What can a chiropractor do for a patient that a physical therapist cannot?

Additionally, when a chiropractor says a vertebrae is “out of place” or “subluxated” and they “put it back,” what exactly are they doing? No vertebrae stays completely static as they are meant to flex, especially in the neck. Saying they’re putting it back in place makes no sense when it’s just going to move the second you get up from the table.

Thanks.

Chiropractors typically adjust the spine to improve alignment and nerve function. While physical therapists focus on exercises and movement, chiropractors offer hands-on spinal adjustments for conditions like back pain. If a vertebra is “out of place,” a chiropractor aims to restore alignment through quick, controlled movements, providing potential relief.

Look up sciatica, that’s what I have. Went to a MD, referred to a specialist and was told I was going to be on disability for the rest of my life and surgery was the only option with heavy pain meds to keep me comfortable.

Surgery included fusing my spine in certain places and grinding off the part of the disc pinching the nerve.

I said fuck that, I do not accept this as the only answer.

Went to a chiropractor, he diagnosed me the exact same way as the “Dr’s” and then explained to me the cure.

I went with it, that was over 5 yrs ago, no pain meds, no surgery. I go back to him once every 6 months for Maintence and I am pain free, excelling at my career, taking promotions and making bank.

Surgeons get paid by the surgery, MD’s get paid to prescribe, hospitals get paid to treat not cure. This is how it works in a for profit economy.

Yes my chiropractor gets paid to adjust my joints, he has taught me ways to prevent further injury.

Chiropratic treatments do not happen in one go, they need repetition to work.

You can’t pound out a dent in a fender with one blow, it takes many many hammer blows to fix.

I am a live example of what physical therapy couldn’t and chiropractor did.

As a digital artist, I spend most of my time in front of a computer staring at a screen. Around 10 years ago, I started having pain on my left shoulder. The more I spent more time in front of the computer, the more pain got worse. Went to hospital, started having muscle relaxants (30 per session to be precise) injected to the area. My doctor said if I didnt exercise, I will have to visit her every month for the shots.

She was right.

That went on for 2 years. 30 shots of relaxants every 3 months as I didnt have time to exercise.

Then I met my chiropractor.

In 3 sessions, he solved my problem my physician couldn’t in 3 years. And that was 5 years ago. Didn’t visit him since.

He said to me that all the muscles in my back are connected to my spine, so first he had to fix my spine. Then the connecting muscles. Then everything else. He used acupancture, and a whole a lot of other shit.

He fixed me. My physician couldn’t. That’s what I know.

Pretends to be a doctor. Generates fake treatment bills for use in personal injury lawsuits.

They take your money. They lie to you. Sometimes they give you a stroke, or injure your soft tissue.

Don’t *ever* go see a chiropractor.
