heat physically damages our cells by breaking the bonds between molecules and potentially causing chemical reactions to happen. Your tongue needs to be extra sensitive to do its job, but its also more sensitive to damage. Your body needs time to repair the damage done when burnt and the lingering pain is a warning to be gentle with it
