Basically it’s the same as putting a blanket over your head. At a glance websites won’t know who you are and you won’t remember where you’ve been but there are some who know you’re just a dumb kid with a blanket on and know who you are because they’ve seen that same blanket before.

Use a VPN and incognito for best results but as others have said, most browsers and websites can get around incognito pretty easily.

It’s a bit of a misnomer – it doesn’t anonymise you at all. What it does do is create an isolated browsing session from which things don’t (shouldn’t) escape – anything you do in that session should be lost forever once it’s closed (edit: as far as things local to your own computer are concerned).

It basically doesn’t keep the history on your device + on mobile it can take additional steps like preventing screenshots and hiding the content in recents screen.
Adminstrators can still see what you’re doing and websites still get the same info they do on normal mode.

It means that the browser will start a new browsing session and will not record anything during it. This means two things: it will not use identifying information (such as cookies) from your normal browsing session, and any information collected while browsing incognito (cookies, browsing history) will be discarded and not stored on your computer. This means that anyone using your computer later won’t know what sites you went to.

It deletes everything you search as soon as you close the window

Nothing will be logged on your search history

It (mostly) stops somebody else who uses your computer from seeing which websites you visited. It doesn’t stop those websites from figuring out who you are. From their perspective, you’ve taken off any “nametag” the website has given you, but you’re not wearing a disguise. If they know what you “look like”, they can still totally tell its you, even without the official “nametag”.

Incognito (for chrome anyway) does t do anything.
Other than not save browser history. Bookmarks, downloads and all that are still in the open, and the websites you visit will know that ur ip connected.

If you want true privacy, try tor. Its a very (read: very very very very) provat and secure browser that acts as a triple vpn. Whats more, unlike vpn companies, tor is completely free, and is secure to the point that its vecome the only way to access the dark web (not recommended though) and will protect you.

Basically :
Incognito on chrome will hide your search history from yourself and anyone not too tech savy (good for hiding secret gifts from a SO)

Private on Firefox will do the same but also prevent any form of cookies etc from being planted, and send a do not track request (good from hiding your closeted sexuality from a technical parent)

Using a vpn will hide your ip form the websites you vist in conjunction with the two above (but the vpn itself may track you so be careful) (good for making it so your embarrassing hobby of editing leud wiki articles isnt directly traced back to you OR for accessing content from other countries )

Using tor browser will make you anonymous to a rediculous degree, and protects you from being exposed by the government for out pizzaing the hut (if used correctly) (good for accessing free media in auth countries and/or accessing information about GSRM rights in hostile nations)

Enjoy distancing yourself from your online habits! 🙂
