Humans are empathetic social animals, meaning we enjoy each others company and understand how someone else feels. Contagious laughter is when someone elses enjoyment triggers your empathy and you feel happiness as well, this being displayed by laughter.

In my uneducated opinion I’d say it is when you find someone else’s laughter funny, and so you start laughing

When the laughter of another causes you to laugh. It’s like how you’ll laugh at something even if you don’t find it funny but others are laughing and then it spreads. Contagious laughter usually refers to someone who can get everyone to laugh by laughing and is usually popular/well liked
