What happens if i use a voltage converter with less Watts than the eletronic that the converter would be connected with?

For more background, i have a converter with the capacity of 550 Watts to use on a PSU of 750 Watts

If the load tries to pull more power than the converter is rated for, it will probably overheat the converter and the converter might not be able to provide full voltage. For example, if it’s supposed to be 550W at 115VAC and you try to pull 750W the output voltage could drop to 80VAC.

Some converters are smart enough to detect this and just shut down, so it might just turn off beyond 550W to protect itself (and you).

If the load never tries to pull more than the converter is rated for, you’ll never see any difference.

Either it’ll blow its fuse, overheat, or fail to provide the right voltage.

Either way, I wouldn’t screw around with it. Just get one that supports your needs.

As long as you don’t use more than 550 W from the power supply it should work, but you should really size the converter for the power supply to do things properly

This is dangerous.

Don’t do it.

You could cause a fire or other life threatening danger.

*Some* devices have over-current protection and won’t pass more current than their ratings. Many do NOT and will over-heat and melt or catch fire. This can also cause internal short circuits and other problems.

Never ever do this.
