Your brain is getting squished.

When your head moves suddenly and rapidly, your brain lags behind a bit and can get squished up against the skull. When this happened severely you get a concussion.

It’s kind of like when you’re in a car and the driver slams on the breaks and your body still goes forward, your seatbelt stops you from moving off the seat but if you weren’t wearing that then next thing stopping you would be the car itself. In this care you are your brain, and the car is the skull.

When the brain gets squished, it interrupts the function of the area that’s getting squished.

Once the brain Unsquishes itself, it generally is able to start functioning again. Which is why when you’re knocked out the person typically wakes back up shortly after laying on the ground for a minute.
