What happens, physiologically, in the brain when a stroke occurs from smoking and poor diet?

There are two types of stroke:
An ischemic stroke is where the blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted or significantly slowed, usually by an errant blood clot that gets caught in the arteries in the brain that may have been narrowed due to plaque build up. The brain now gets too little blood to function or survive; if not treated, brain tissue begins to die, and permanent brain damage or death will result.
A hemorrhaging stroke is where a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and begins bleeding into the brain. The pressure in the blood vessels is a lot higher than the pressure in the brain or anywhere else in the body (the blood needs the pressure in order to move quickly through the blood vessels). This causes blood to starting filling the brain, increasing pressure on the brain tissue. The pressure will reduce brain function and eventually lead to brain damage or death.
The same thing that happens when you have a stroke for any reason. There is a clot that gets stuck in a brain vein and it stops the blood from flowing to an area. That area starts to die from lack of oxygen.
