You know when you eat something and suddenly if feels like there’s a rollercoaster inside your stomach? Like you feel your esophagus slightly burning and you burp a lot and sometimes you feel like throwing up.

What is happening inside your body to make you feel like this? why does this happen? What can we do to prevent this from happening again?

Sounds like textbook GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), otherwise known as heartburn. Basically, your stomach acid goes back up into your esophagus (“refluxes”) and irritates it. It can be caused by eating certain types of foods, drinking certain things, a weakened spincter muscle between the stomach and the esophagus, etc. Coffee is known to worsen GERD, by the way. If this is common, there are medications you can take to reduce the production of stomach acid, such as Zantac (ranitidine), Prilosec (omeprazole), and others.
