What happens to the skin when you fall and scrape your knee?

Like you don’t see the removed skin on the ground afterwards. What happens to the skin and where does it go.

It isn’t necessarily removed from your knee. Your skin is elastic, so when it gets cut, it will pull part from itself (I stretch) and leave the open wound.

It’s also possible to leave some skin behind but not see it as it can be a very thin layer
