Ok so for a five year old I would say it’s literally just muscles getting tired. For someone a bit older I would explain that for muscles to move, a chemical reaction takes place. It’s quite complicated and involves many steps and hard to pronounce words. But in essence, the food you eat provides the chemicals for this to happen. But the muscles have limited storage of these chemicals, like a gas tank. And as you do stuff, this gets depleted. It will refill, but it needs time. At heavy exertion, you will run out of fuel quickly. In addition, during weight training, muscle fibers will tear, and so you have less power. They regrow stronger than before after rest and that is how you get big strong muscles.
