Generally it means an area that (usually) a government will not allow unauthorized aircraft to fly into, for example, area 51 is a no fly zone, meaning, if you get near it, the US airforce will dispatch interceptors to tail you, you will be hailed on the radio, and told to turn back. If you don’t, they *can* use force to stop your aircraft, so if you ignored the warnings and kept flying into the zone, the fighters dispatched to tail you, can fire at you to stop your plane from going any further

Another no fly zone would be something like a nations borders, for example a military aircraft from Russia, is not allowed to fly over US airspace, if the Russian plane kept going, the US would be well within its rights to shoot it out of the sky

And the last type of zone is usually warzones, these places are “hot” with combat, and sometimes you won’t even get a warning before one side fires at you

It’s a part of the sky where you tell others you can’t fly here. But if you just told them and did nothing else, they aren’t going to listen.

So you then need to enforce it by sending people to shoot down everything that violates the no fly zone. Now, the other country that lost their aircraft can just say ok, fine we won’t flu.

But they won’t do that because being able to fly is super useful. It’s easier and faster to move people and supplies in the air, so they will fight back and attack the people sent to shoot them down.
