A particle model is when you can describe a phenomenon in terms of small fundamental units (quantised) which behave like particles. So a particle model of light described it as particles called photons, in crystals you can model vibrations as a particle called a phonon.

This could refer to a lot of stuff. We simplify physics to particle motion to make sure we don’t have to include stress and strain but we also have models that rely on particles. Can you be a little more specific?
