Karl Marx believed that the ‘division of labour’ (if you’re okay with a really simplified take, he was talking about capitalism) made people less humane.

He thought that the capitalistic work force and social classes made people more ‘mechanic’. You get up with your alarm, work 8 hours, go home, eat sleep. He thought workers were no longer able to think for themselves. They just worked on autopilot.

Marx considered that ‘alienation’ from human nature.
