I assume you mean a *Bode* plot. This is an approximate graph of the frequency response of a system, normally expressed as Amplitude vs. Frequency where Frequency is logarithmic.

The logarithmic base is normally 10. That is, the x-axis is labeled with equally spaced tick marks as 1, 10, 100, 1000, …

An ‘octave’ is derived from music, where one octave indicates a doubling of frequency. If you play a note at a certain frequency, doubling that frequency will be the same note – but one octave higher. So there are about 3.3 ‘octaves’ between base 10 tick marks on a Bode Plot.
