Dont know about the fx part, but aa stands for anti aliasing. That means to smooth jagged edges in the image. Jagged edges occur when computer draws images containing edges. anti aliasing will smooth the jagges by either identifying the pixels sticking out and smoothing them, or by drawing the image many times with a slight offset, and superimposing them to make jaggies appear in slightly different locations in each picture, canceling them out.
