It smooths out jagged edges in rendered animation/screens. It’s also faster than some other methods and uses less CPU because it only smooths out edges as they appear on screen, not how they are actually rendered. It can also work on non-vector based images unlike MSAA (multisample anti-aliasing).
In games, it gives you a better image for less computational power which in turn means higher frame-rates.
