I watched intervention and the opiate addict said, we nod out standing up BECAUSE we stay high longer. If we lay down, we fall asleep and ruin the high. When w stand, outer body can’t fall asleep and we are stuck in a state of high, the moment we lay down we pass out.
They stand so they can feel the high longer.
TLDR: FUCK OPIATES
What is happening to a person when an Opioid-like drug is causing them to nod off? Answer- This is a direct result of the drugs mechanism of action. The drug is a depressant and slows down a person’s breathing. This Lack of sufficient oxygen to the brain causes the sleepy feeling which causes the nod. Regardless of whether the individual is trying to get high or they were severely injured and are receiving too much pain medicine… if enough drug is taken, the effect on the central nervous system will be the same. Drowsiness, respiratory depression, nodding, sleeping, and possibly potential death due to respiratory arrest.
Finally something I can speak on lol.
The drug category I think you are referring to is CNS depressants, which slow brain activity and make people relax. The most common are alcohol, benzos, barbiturates and opioids.
CNS stimulant users can also show these signs when coming down from a high, be a use their body and brain is trying to catch up on sleep.
So to answer your question, they are falling asleep.
