What is metabolic flexibility?

It’s a term used to describe how your body can respond and react differently given different metabolic conditions, like after eating or fasting.

After eating your body has lots of resources to use whereas while fasting your body doesn’t. Your body will then utilize it’s own resources differently, thus is metabolically flexible.

This was originally used to describe why patients with type 2 diabetes often express higher levels of fatty acids oxidation and lower levels of glucose oxidation (basically their bodies where burning fats and not sugar).

This also had an effect on insulin resistance.
