ratio is the comparison of 2 numbers giving an example of how one aspect is viewed into the other
He made 3 shots out of 23 is a ratio stating out of 23 in total I am focusing on the 3 he made to create a statistic.
Proportion is more so focused on the shared amount to create a different statistic. Out of 23 shots 10 were layups , 10 were baskets and 3 were dunks , I proportioned his amount of shots into different categories to make a different statistic.
They are both used to find create patterns to explain numbers in a whole easier.
