From some basic research, it looks like they’re the same engine block (the Ecoboost V6 3.5) – the difference is in the turbochargers. The F150 has beefier turbos than the engine in the Taurus.

Not much, both use the 3.5L dual overhead cam “Cyclone” V-6 to generate similar horsepower numbers.

There are some differences in the intake and exhaust, but the actual engine block is identical.

They have different transmission gearing and fuel flow programming, with the Taurus targeting better highway speed efficiency and the F-150 targeting towing grunt.

This is pretty typical, 90s camaros had the same LT1 engine as a Buick Roadmaster wagon.

in this case, not much. but if you’re trying to figure out difference between two engine of same capacity, it comes down to things like bore (how wide is the cylinder) vs stroke (how tall is the cylinder), intake manifold runner diameter, intake manifold flow characteristics, computer performance tuning, exhaust manifold flow, etc etc.

bigger bore, less stroke produces more hp than tq. this is good for high revving cars, this is not good for low end towing power. opposite for small bore, long stroke. good for low end power, bad for high end revving since pistons have to travel longer distance and there’s more rotating mass to try to keep in line. short fat intake runners are good for low end power. long intake runners get better high end.
