What is the difference between VA, IPS, and TN monitors? And which is considered the best?

VA = Vertical Alignment

IPS = In-Plane Switching

TN = Twisted Nematic.

Basically these are just different ways of doing the same thing, not unlike an internal combustion engine versus an electric motor to move a car. In this case they produce color.

Generally speaking, IPS is considered the best. It has the highest viewing angle and most accurate color reproduction.

However, TN has advantages for gamers who prefer a higher refresh, and VA panels offer the best contrast and are great for video.
