You mean the three body problem? It’s a problem in physics/astronomy. Imagine two objects in vacuum that move at certain initial speeds and attract each other via gravity. We can easily calculate how they will move, just write an equation that will tell us where each of them will be at any time, what speed it will have and in what direction it will be moving. Now imagine that instead of two objects we have three (or more). Suddenly it becomes very hard and we jast cannot have a solvable equation, we can only try to approximate the solution.

I think you’re asking about combined arms doctrine. Basically, the idea is that traditionally, different branches of the military (Army, Navy, Marines) sort of did their own thing in battle. But in modern warfare they have to work more closely together than in past centuries. Basically using tanks / artillery (Army) and battleship bombardment (Navy) to back up an elite infantry spearhead (Marines).
