I was watching the layers of rhe atnosphere in a google search and it says that there are different layers, but I really don’t understand that separates them. It is the gravity of the earth that creates such phenomenon?

The “borders” between the layers are extremely fuzzy, but it’s basically the same effect as oil floating on water – the lighter elements exist in heigher concentrations in the upper layers.
