what separates the layers of the atmosphere?

I was watching the layers of rhe atnosphere in a google search and it says that there are different layers, but I really don’t understand that separates them. It is the gravity of the earth that creates such phenomenon?

Really, there are no “layers” in the atmosphere, not in the physical sense. There’s the ozone layer, sure, but in terms of the troposphere, stratosphere, etc, it’s a fairly smooth gradient in terms of pressure and atmospheric density — yes, caused by gravity. The names are mostly for human convenience.
