What’s the “but if you close your eyes” and something disappearing on the map meme about?

Well, the line is from the song “Pompeii” by bastille.
Basically the lyrics are about a bunch of bad stuff happened and the world tumbling down around you, and then it goes:
“but if you closed your eyes,
Does it almost feel like nothings changed at all”
Which is basically if you close your eyes can you imagine a better world.
So people have taken that and made a meme where the point is you’re saying something sucks, and then you close your eyes and imagine a world without whatever’s making it bad, which in the meme is usually a state or country that people don’t like. (Like California gettin a lot of hate)
