American sports and franchise cricket like IPL are said to be franchise league while football (soccer) has club based leagues. So how do they actually differ)

When you “own” a team in a franchise league, you don’t actually own the team. What you own is the *rights* to operate that team, and those rights can be taken away. For example, in the American professional basketball league, an owner can be forced to sell their team by a majority vote of the other owners.

In a club-based league, you actually own the team.

A franchise league is like McDonald’s. You can have several private individuals owning different McDonald’s restaurants but they don’t get to set thier own menus, source their own ingredients, design their own restaurants, etc…they all have to follow the McDonald’s corporate rules or can be forced out for breaking them.

A club league is more like a group of privately owned restaurants in a particular city, that are overseen by that citys health, building and fire departments, business bureaus, etc…so they have to follow certain rules but the restaurant itself has a lot more freedom on the things I mentioned in the McDonald’s example, as long as they meet that citys requirements for the public’s general health and safety.
