The name crystal is a misnomer.
“The name is derived from the Italian term “Cristallo”, which was used for high-end hand-blown glass in Murano, Italy.”
There are no crystals in crystal glass. There are various metallic oxides in crystal, the most well known being lead oxide. These oxides improve the glass’s properties allowing for cutting and being made thin.
