There’s no such thing as “the stomach flu.” The influenza virus doesn’t work this way. Nine times out of 10, when someone says they had “stomach flu,” they have food poisoning, of which there are many different kinds.

If the intestinal issues *are* being caused by a viral infection, it’s most often norovirus. But that’s not “poisoning,” per se. Bacteria release toxins — poison — while viruses are hijacking cells to create more viruses.

Note also that a virus is not bacteria. Totally different organisms, not even in the same phylum.

The whole premise of your question is based on misinformation. The flu is caused by a virus. Even if they were both caused by bacteria like you thought, it does not mean they are the same. Its like saying 2 people have the same personalities
