When you are asleep, your body becomes paralyzed so you do not act out your dreams and potentially injure yourself. Sleep walking is when this function breaks down, and you are able to move while asleep. Sleep paralysis is the opposite, and your mind becomes awake before your body is able to undo the paralysis. You are not *entirely* awake, which is why you often see hallucinations.
