It’s called the philtrum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philtrum

It is not known to have a use for people but it exists in nearly all mammals and is part of the evolutionary blueprint, so to speak. The philtrum is a narrow groove that may carry dissolved odorants from the rhinarium or nose pad to the vomeronasal organ via ducts inside the mouth. That is, it helps smell/taste. It is obvious on dogs, where it is functional.

It’s where two parts of the palette fuse together during fetal development.

Ever seen a harelip? That’s what happens when it doesn’t go smoothly.

Its called the Philtrum, and it’s present on mammals who breast feed. It’s believed to help infants breathe through their nose when their face is smooshed into a boob.
