When in an unlit environment, why is a light suddenly turning on so disorienting?

Because when it’s dark, your eye holes become thicc to let as much light in as possible.

When the light suddenly comes on, a lot more light goes into the eye than normal and your eyes light sensors start to Panik, send too many signals to your brain and you start * confused screaming *
