When initially working out, why are you getting stronger but not building any visible muscle?

Your nervous system is less efficient to begin with, so you can’t use your muscles to their full potential. After you’ve trained for a while, your strength increases due to the increased neuromuscular efficiency, but your muscles haven’t actually needed to get any bigger yet.
