When performing in vitro fertilization, how do doctors ensure that the sperm that fertilizes the egg is the best one?

Or does it not matter which sperm it is?

IVF isn’t a form of genetic selection. In the most basic form, a bunch of sperm and a bunch of eggs are mixed together in a test tube and the sperm is left to do its thing. If that fails, then it is possible to manually inject a single sperm cell into an egg – but there is nothing particularly special about that sperm cell.

They don’t so long as it is healthy it is used beyond that there isn’t currently much more that can be done.

You can see a sperms structure under a microscope. They even have a procedure called ICSI where the select a good looking sperm then inject it into an egg.
