Where do animals go during hurricanes?

Where do animals like birds and rabbits, who can’t leave the area go during massive storms? How do they survive extreme wind speeds that knock over trees or rain that would flood their burrows?

Birds attempt to fly away rabbits go underground and hide, but many of them die, there are substantial numbers of animals bodies found after big storms.
