I noticed after putting some ant traps that the ants that die get carried away by their brethren but where do they take them and why

Ants carry their dead to a “graveyard” to keep their nests clean and avoid spreading disease. It helps keep the colony healthy.

When ants are alive they produce a scent that lets other ants know that they are alive. When they die this scent goes away and other ants transport the corpses to the ant graveyard.

There was an experiment where scientists surpressed the scent on living ants and they were transported to the graveyard even though the were alive.

This is to keep the colony clean.

Just a distance from the hive. “Away”. Other trash goes there too.

Ant corpses are unsanitary for ants in very much the same way that human corpses are unsanitary for humans. They rot and diseases fester in them that can affect the living.
