Where does the water from the waterfall or valley in the mountain come from?

The catchment area for a waterfall covers everything upsteam and uphill of it. Water takes a long tike to percolate through the ground, and into a watercourse upstream of the waterfall.
Think of it like a traffic jam on a motorway. They’ve all come from their individual houses, to converge into one place at the same time
